Minesweeper
A free, online minesweeper game written in Javascript for gamers and programmers
How to play: Its just like regular minesweeper!
We've now been online for over 20 years!
And we just passed 100 million games played!
Thanks to everyone who has played Javascript Minesweeper, both here and on other sites and apps
We've been going strong for 20 years and the game has held up remarkably well.
Looking forward to the next 20 years and the next 100 million plays!
(For the 1st decade I didn't keep the logs so the 100 million is actually just from the last 10 years)
(also I don't have an exact date when I initially published but it was some time in late May 1997)
You may need to permit requested popups for the Minsweeper game window to appear.
If you are using a Mac or a one-button mouse, use the space bar to mark bombs.
If you want to save your high scores locally then please enable cookies.
Use the game's menus for options, instructions, technical notes, and high scores.
I wrote this in 1997 as a way of learning Javascript, originally for Netscape and IE 4.x. The standards have moved on since then but with only a few tweaks the game continues to work well in modern browsers. Since then it has been used as the basis for many Minsweeper apps, widgets, and other Minesweeper game sites.
If you want to use/redistribute Javascript Minesweeper, that's great, just add a link back to my site. You can download the source code here. Contact me to get the latest-and-greatest source code and so I can fix any issues on new platforms. My email is on the About page within the game.
The Wikipedia Minesweeper page does a better job than I of maintaining links to other minesweeper resources.
collegehumor.com made an awesome Minesweeper movie. A must see for all serious and bored Minesweeper players.
